Description
Gorgeous jumbo cowrie shell earrings measure 1.50″ long by almost 1.25″ wide, nestled in hand stamped and etched scalloped sterling silver settings. Face of earring without earwire is 1 1/4″ long. These are BIG ‘uns! Sturdy hinged french wires are secured in a tiny hole in the front top of the setting, easy, secure on and off from the back. These are not too heavy in the earlobe. Very comfortable.
These earrings are made to be presented to an Iyawo (an orisa initiate) in brasil tradition, who makes all initiations to become a Mae de Santo, (Iyalorisa), of the Yoruba orisa nature deities. She is also presented with a cowrie shell ring along with the 16 cowrie shells which she will use to divine for the public when she opens her own ile, her own spiritual center. The earrings and ring are part of the traditional wear of an Iyalorisa. Perfect gift for omo orisa who receives her final crowning initiations, giving her the right to be called Iyalorisa, and perfect for all mermaids who love the sea.
